September Newsletter

Comrades and Sisters,

The fall months are here and that means we will need volunteers for the programs and projects that are ahead of us. The goals cannot be met without more help. The post has 140 plus members and it seems that fewer than 10 are working. It is every member's obligation to support the post both physically and financially. So if your health permits, donate some time to your VFW Post.

Tom Burgmeier has Altoona VFW baseball caps to sell. $8.00 each.

I, CMdr Olkives and District Cmdr Kosmoski attended the VFW National Convention. One of the main objectives of the VFW is to lobby our legislators to insure the Veterans Administration continues to receive adequate funding to care for our veterans. A contribution to the PAC program will help the VA keep the benefits we have earned.

This past Sunday, Jim Crandall, wanted to see if another breakfast on teh 4th SUnday of every month would be profitable. It does seem to be. However, that means there is need for more volunteers to come in at 10:00am, to wash dishes and help in the kitchen. Sign up to work either the 2nd or 4th Sunday or both.

The 9th District meeting is Saturday the 26th of Sept in New Richmond. If you want to attend, contact the post to get your reservation in. Deadline is: Sept 18th.

The Altoona Lions have evening meals at the post on the 2nd and 4th Wed, prior to their business meetings. One person may be needed to help at 6:30pm.

Poppy program will be from November 11th thru 14th. We will cover Mega, Festival and Wal-Mart with 3 hour shifts from 9am to 6pm. Get your request in early for your choice of spots. Contact Lowell (Ode) Odegard at 832-5622.

The American Legion in Bloomer is hosting a chicken dinner on Sunday AUgust 30th from 11am to 2pm. Cost $6.00. This is to raise money, to send WWII veterans on a freedom flight to Washington DC, to view the WWII memorial and other sights.

Vietnam Veterans picnic: Saturday Sept 19th 11:30 to 3:30 at the Altoona Park on 10th Ave. Vietnam Veterans only plus one guest. RSVP needed 715/861-3081.
